How to Stay Grounded in a World That Feels Upside Down
By Allison Parr-Plasha, Certified Life Coach | vieespritcoaching.com
Let’s be honest: the world feels heavy right now.
So many of us are navigating an undercurrent of stress—whether from the news, work, family, finances, or just the general sense that life is moving too fast, with too much uncertainty. If you feel unsteady or overwhelmed, you are not alone.
But here’s what I know as a life coach, and as a woman walking through this world, too:
You don’t have to be swept away by the storm. You can learn to anchor yourself—deeply, lovingly, and intentionally—even when the world around you feels upside down.

Here’s how
1. Start with Your Breath
This sounds simple, but it’s foundational. When life feels chaotic, your nervous system needs safety. That begins with conscious breathing.
Take 60 seconds—just one minute—to close your eyes, drop your shoulders, and inhale slowly through your nose. Hold. Exhale even more slowly.
Do this three times. Notice your body. Let yourself arrive again.
Your breath is a built-in reset button. Use it.
2. Create a Daily Grounding Ritual
In times of overwhelm, routine becomes medicine. Choose one thing you do each day just to come home to yourself—spiritually, emotionally, or energetically.
It could be:
Lighting a candle and setting an intention
Saying a prayer that resonates with your beliefs
Journaling three things you’re grateful for
Walking in silence for 10 minutes
This isn’t about performance—it’s about presence. Ritual anchors you when the world feels unmoored.
3. Disconnect to Reconnect
Much of our anxiety comes from overstimulation: constant scrolling, comparison, outrage, and noise. Your nervous system is not meant to process everything happening in the world every second of the day.
Give yourself permission to log off—from social media, from the news, from the endless stream of other people’s opinions. Even if just for an hour. Even if just for a day.
When you turn down the volume of the outside world, you can finally hear your own inner voice again.
4. Ask Yourself This Grounding Question:
Whenever you feel overwhelmed or unsure, ask:
“What’s mine to carry—and what isn’t?”
As sensitive, conscious humans, we often carry burdens that aren’t ours. Worry, responsibility, guilt, even the emotional pain of others. You can care deeply and still protect your energy.
Let go of what is not yours. Tend to your own fire first.
5. Get Support. Don’t Go It Alone.
Staying grounded is not about being perfectly calm or always having it together. It’s about being honest with yourself and supported as you move through life with intention.
This is why life coaching is so powerful. It’s a space to untangle, realign, and reconnect—to yourself, your truth, and your soul’s direction.
You don’t need to carry the weight of the world alone. You don’t need to figure it all out by yourself.
